How would one modernise a traditional Catalan Cava producer? Arvicaretey founder Manuel Martinez thought of bringing in some international know-how and asked Ex-retail manager and consultant Stephan Helmes for help. They ended up creating a joint venture together and named it Vid Vica. “Vid” means vineyard in Spanish, “Vi-Ca” stands for “Vino” and “Cava”. The idea: Vid Vica will be the head of Arvicaretey, in charge of changing Arvicaretey into a modern, internationally operating wine and Cava producer.
Since 1999, when we started with Vid Vica as head of what we call Grupo Arvicaretey, a lot happened. Not one of the wines and Cavas you will find in our portfolio existed by that time. In 2007, you can buy our products in Spain, Portugal, France, United Kingdom, Ireland, Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Poland, Croatia, United States, Japan and New Zealand. Let’s be honest, we are still not a market leader in New Zealand and there might be some bigger guys in the US, but we are still a pretty young company and every business as well as every human being needs some dreams…
There is a lot of volume business going on, where only price matters and quality comes last. For us, first comes quality, then we offer our best price. How we do that? Our bodegas work with state of the art wine and Cava production technology and we at Vid Vica try to keep costs down.
